Avocado is a fruit we don’t see or use often here. From what I’ve read, they make the most perfect first baby food. I serve Avocados as an exotic indulgence for T, since they are not readily available. The consistency is like that of butter and goes wonderfully well in combination with some fruits.
I also learnt that Avocados contain Omega 3 fatty acids. Especially for a developing, growing baby, that type of fat and the caloric value is a good thing.
I have to be careful though with the portions I give him. The first time he loved it so much that I gave him the whole fruit over the course of the day which gave him a slightly upset tummy because of the fruit’s rich fibre content.
Storage:
Split an Avocado into four parts and give one part at a time for an evening snack or breakfast. The remainder could be zip locked, frozen and used as and when required.
As breakfast:
Avocado + Egg yolk (boiled)
As a snack:
Avocado + Banana
Avocado + Melon
Avocado + Pear + Pinch of ground ginger
As a meal:
Avocado + Small tender sweet potato (baked) + Oatmeal or Rice cereal
Leave the seed in when storing Avocado…keeps it from browning :)
Thanks Deb, I’ll remember that ;)
